The latest Ford Mondeo has been declared the UK's best family and estate car by What Car? within months of going on sale.
Ford Mondeo, refreshed for 2011 inside and out, collected a pair of trophies at last night's What Car? Awards.
The best family car award went to the Ford Mondeo 2.0 TDCi 140PS Zetec, with the UK's most popular car buyer's guide also naming the same Mondeo best estate - repeating the car's double success at the What Car? Awards two years ago.
Steve Fowler, What Car? editor-in-chief, said: "The latest Mondeo is simply a brilliant car - and now even better value. It does everything brilliantly and nothing badly - whether you choose the hatch or estate you'll be getting a spacious, high quality, affordable car that's more fun to drive than you'd expect a family car to be."
External refinements, heightened interior craftsmanship and hi-tech features define the Ford Mondeo, which went on sale in October 2010.
New LED lights, a revised bonnet profile and full chrome window surround hint at Mondeo's sporty handling and performance. LED lighting continues on the inside, illuminating a redesigned centre console, door panels and materials including high gloss black.
The technology on board the new Ford Mondeo offers increased levels of luxury and useability, ranging from multi-media DVD system and 265-watt sound system to lane departure warning and speed limiter.
Nigel Sharp, Ford Britain managing director, said: "Ford's newest Mondeo has an exterior look and standard of interior well suited to the executive car park. For 2011 we've added powertrains ideal for the low carbon needs of our customers."
New powertrains for 2011 are Ford Mondeo's 1.6-litre diesel and petrol engines. The 1.6-litre TDCi diesel engine, fitted with start-stop as standard, returns over 65mpg and emits only 114g CO2/km. The 1.6-litre 160PS EcoBoost turbo charged petrol engine, capable of 134mph, delivers 41.5mpg and emits 158g CO2/km.
The award-winning new Ford Mondeo range is priced from £17,695 on the road.
