In the 2011 What Car? Green Awards, the Ford Mondeo 106 litre TDCi has been named the greenest family car, offering 65.6mpg and 114g/km.
What Car? editor in chief Chas Hallett said: "Ford has done great things to the Mondeo. The award-winning 1.6 TDCi is the best green family car, being both a brilliant all-rounder and remarkably eco-friendly with its low CO2 rating of 114g/km.
"The judging team praised its supple and controlled ride, lively chassis and perfectly weighted steering."
Mark Ovenden, Ford Britain managing director, said: "Thanks to impressive fuel economy, Ford has an outstanding low-carbon vehicle line-up which combines design style, technology and affordability. This Ford Mondeo's UK-built 1.6 diesel engine is an extraordinary combination of performance and low CO2 and is available across the range from Fiesta to Galaxy."
The Ford Mondeo's 114g/km and 65.6mpg means the road tax for the first year, and £30 from year two onwards.
Priced from £19,895, the Ford Mondeo 1.6 TDCi comes as standard with Bluetooth, cruise control and Easy Fuel, preventing misfuelling.
