The new Ford Focus ST has gone on show at this week’s Paris Motor Show before going on sale later in year; they are expected in dealerships early next year.
Ford is introducing a 2.0-litre diesel to join the petrol 2.0-litre EcoBoost petrol engine.
The diesel unit produces 185PS / 400Nm which make it capable of 0-62 mph in 8.1 seconds and top speed of 135 mph. The diesel engine is capable of 67.3 mpg with emissions of 110 g/km on the official combined cycle.
This compares to the 2.0-litre EcoBoost petrol engine that outputs 250PS / 360 NM with a 0-62 mph time of 6.5 seconds and a top speed of 154 mph. On the combined cycle the petrol engine is capable of 41.5 mpg with emissions of 159 g/km.
Both units are mated to six-speed manual transmissions with auto start/stop technology and are Euro 6 compliant.
The chassis has been revised and now includes Enhanced Transitional Stability (ETS) system which works in conjunction with the Electronic Stability Control (ESC) in preventing skidding or loss of control, the ESC can be deactivated for track use. The suspension has also been modified with new front springs and shock absorber plus stiffer suspension bushes on the front lower control arm and rear spring links. And Electronic Power Assisted Steering and electronic vehicle control systems have been recalibrated to improve performance.
The interior has been freshened and simplified with a new flat-base sports steering, clearer instrumentation with the turbocharger boost pressure, oil temperature and oil pressure information remaining.
There is a choice of three trim levels, ‘ST1’, ‘ST2’ and ‘ST3’ - the ST1 seats are trimmed in grey/charcoal/anthracite black fabric; where the ST2 adds partial leather with base and side bolsters available in four colours (Tangerine Scream; Performance Blue; Smoke Storm or Race Red) and the ST3 has full charcoal black leather seats.
The exterior has been sharpened for a more aggressive stance with a new sculpted bonnet; slimmer headlamps and rectangular foglamps plus twin-hexagonal centre tailpipes.
There are new exterior colours, with a dark grey tone called Stealth joining the line-up which includes Deep Impact Blue, Tangerine Scream, Frozen White, Panther Black and Race Red.
