Inside the Ford Fiesta, the designers have gone to town with an array of bold colour and material options for the split-level fascia and upholstery. But the most striking feature is the centre console, which is narrow and said to be inspired by mobile phones with buttons for the audio system that spread diagonally outwards from a central control.
Ford is known for comfort and the new Fiesta is no different. There's plenty of support from the front seats and adequate legroom and comfort for the three rear-seat occupants, although a centre headrest is an extra. The spare wheel is replaced with a tyre kit, which means that there is a bit more space in the boot for luggage. With the rear seats in an upright position, the capacity is 295-litres and with the seats backs folded (60:40); this increases to 979-litres.
There are too many options to pin down any one interior style, some might call it individuality but be careful in your choices lest it result in a complete mish-mash. Luckily Ford has thought of this and there are some restrictions in the combinations of 15 exterior colours (12 of which are in optional metallic) and five interior hues.
So, there's something for everyone and the same can be said of the engine and trim choices. Ford has kept the old trim structure to make it easy for previous customers and new buyers to choose from the available options of: Studio, Style, Style+, Zetec, Zetec S, Titanium and ECOnetic - the test car.
That the ECOnetic is regarded as a trim level means that is more than just a name and that there are visual differences, such as the rear air deflectors and lowered suspension. Less visible are the low rolling resistance tyres and powertrain under-shield, while inside, there's a new, green shift indicator light to prompt the driver into the suggested, right gear at the right time.
