Ford has announced that their all-new Mondeo based SUV - the Edge will go on sale for the first time in Europe next year, it is currently on sale in the United States and selected other markets.
The Edge was first launched in 2007 in North America and has gone on to be the best selling SUV in its segment.
The five-seat Edge will sit on top of the Kuga a medium-sized SUV and Ford's EcoSport small SUV, it offers raft of new technology including Adaptive Steering and an Adaptive Noise Cancellation system. Ford claim that there will be interior space than its rivals, such as the Audi Q5 and the Volkswagen Touareg.
For the UK market there will be only one engine, the 2.0-litre Duratorq TDCi diesel engine with two power outputs, a 180 PS version delivering 400 Nm of torque and projected 149 g/km CO2, with 6-speed manual transmission and a 210 PS version delivering 450 Nm of torque and projected 159 g/km CO2, with 6-speed PowerShift automatic and paddle-shift controls. All models will be four-wheel-drive and promise responsive European handling and performance.
We would imagine that prices will start at around £30,000 for the entry level model.
