The Ford Centenary Tour has started, with 10 Ford vehicles which span the 100 year history of Ford in Britain assembled, at Tower Bridge, flagged off by Radio celebrity and car enthusiast Chris Evans.

Chris Evans said: "I'm delighted to be part of Ford UK's centenary celebrations. As with so many people, I have many fond memories of Ford cars. In fact as we speak, I'm actively having a snoop around for a classic Ford Escort Mexico to stick in my garage."

The Ford Centenary Tour, which charts Ford's history and future plans, will visit 20 UK locations, to include Ford plants and dealers, making contact with Ford customers, employees and enthusiasts.

On 16th, 17th and 18th September 2011, 100 Ford vehicles will descend on the Goodwood race circuit on each day of the Goodwood Revival in Chichester, West Sussex.

Ford of Britain sales director, Andy Barratt said: "2011 is a significant landmark for Ford of Britain. We have an extraordinary heritage to celebrate and an exciting and innovative future ahead. This tour is an opportunity to showcase many achievements including Ford's leadership of the UK car market for 34 years and commercial market for 45 years."

During the Ford Centenary Tour of the UK, British Society and Ford's role within it will be highlighted. For example, the best driving roads will be sought out in the Scottish Highlands. In the south, Ford drivers will stop for free breakfast rolls offered by Michelin-starred chef Phil Thompson.

Ginger's Comfort Emporium will be providing free ice creams at the beach , and a number of Ford Focus bonnets being re-painted by artists in Glasgow and old and new Ford cars will be recreated as sand sculptures.
