Maranello Concessionaires are the authorised importers of Ferrari and Maserati cars into the UK, and this means the company and its staff are familiar with a fast pace of life. It also means that they understand the need to unwind and relax, a need that increases as we get older! It is for this reason that Maranello provided the funds to equip a tranquillity room at the Lynwood Nursing home in Sunninghill. The residential home is one of four around the country, that are run by BEN – The Motor and Allied Trades Benevolent Fund, a charity founded in 1905, which supports individuals and their dependants who have a connection to the motor industry and its associated trades.
Inside the room the window is blacked out and subdued lighting has been installed to give it an inviting feeling. There is raised comfortable seating and cushions on which the residents can relax, and a number of devices have been installed that are designed to stimulate the senses whilst helping to unwind. An aromatherapy machine has been fitted to alert the sense of smell and put those using the room at ease. In addition, there is a mirror ball, image projector and fibre optic lights to stimulate sight. A wind chime hangs from the ceiling, gently swaying to stimulate hearing and the sound of water adds to the calming effects.
The staff and residents at Lynwood are delighted that this project has been able to go ahead following Maranello’s generosity. It has been found that through the use of these tranquillity rooms, patients in a distressed state can be calmed and relaxed within a short time. It is hoped that not only will it be a place to relax, but that it will provide therapeutic stimulation for some of the residents who suffer from conditions such as sight or hearing impairment and distress caused through their confused state. The room was officially opened on Tuesday 28 January by Helen Burrows, Human Resources Manager of Maranello Concessionaires Limited.
Geoffrey Atkinson, OBE, Chief Executive of BEN said: 'These type of projects would not be possible without the support BEN receives from the organisations within its industry, like the commitment that Maranello Concessionaires has demonstrated and we are extremely grateful for all the help we receive.'
