Japanese compact car specialist Daihatsu has continued its 2004 sales surge with passenger car registrations in February up more than 40 per cent on the same period in 2003.
February’s boost follows Daihatsu’s record increase in January of 138 per cent, the biggest year-on-year growth in passenger car sales in the UK of any manufacturer.
February’s growth of 42.11 per cent, together with January’s means that overall in the first two months of 2004 Daihatsu’s sales were up by nearly 100 per cent, at 97.80 per cent.
Daihatsu’s sales charge is being led by its widely acclaimed Charade city car. Despite starting from only £6,295 on-the-road, its standard equipment includes features normally reserved for cars twice its price, including power steering, ABS, a CD tuner, driver and passenger airbags and front electric windows and door mirrors.
The stylish new Copen roadster, meanwhile, has further added to Daihatsu’s growth. Winter sales of the drop-top sports car, which only went on sale in December, have been strong thanks to its electrically operated hard folding roof, which makes it as snug as a coupe when raised.
