The new fifth-generation BMW M3 Saloon has gone on sale priced from £56,175, with the new M4 Coupe starting at £56,635.
The V8 engine has gone and it is now powered by a 3.0 litre petrol six-cylinder M TwinPower Turbo engine outputting 431hp / 550 Nm. Peak torque has been increased by roughly 40 per cent and is maintained between 1,850£5,500 rpm.
Performance figures are the same for the M3 Saloon and M4 Coupe - which equates to a 0-62 mph time of 4.3 seconds and limited top speed of 155 mph for the manual edition, the optional M DCT transmission shaves 0.2 second off the sprint to 62 mph. On the official combined cycle 32.1 mpg has been recorded and CO2 emissions are 204 g/km for the manual and for auto 34.0 mpg and 194 g/km.
The manual transmission features six-speeds where the optional M Double Clutch Transmission offers seven-speeds and launch control.
Options include M Head-up Display which with includes M-specific functions such as a gear display, rev counter and Optimum Shift Indicator. There is a Professional Navigation system, offering improved graphics and 3D elements for the map display; Driving Assistant Plus, which warns the driver of a looming collision with a pedestrian; Adaptive full LED headlights with an intelligent anti-dazzle High-beam Assistant and a further developed version of Active Cruise Control with Stop & Go function.
