The BMW 4 Series Convertible, is set to go on sale on the 8th March 2014, priced from £36,675 for the entry level 420d SE Convertible.
It is slightly larger than the 3 Series Convertible, which it replaces - it also is lower - and lighter by some 20 kgs.
The 4 Series Convertible features an electric three-piece retractable metal hardtop, which can operate at speeds up to 8 mph, lowering in 20 seconds.With the roof down it will accommodate 220 litres of luggage with it in place this increases to 370 litres, 20 litres more than the 3 Series Convertible. Optionally the back of the rear seats can be lowered to provide a flat and level storage area - through-loading system.BMW 4 Series Convertible Engine Line Up
At launch there will be a choice of two petrol and on diesel engines, 435i (306hp/400Nm), 428i (245hp/350Nm) and the diesel 420d (184hp/380Nm).
The 435i is powered by a 3.0 litre petrol engine outputting 306hp between 5,800 and 6,000 rpm, and peak torque of 400Nm is generated from 1,200rpm through to 5,000rpm. This equates to 0-62 mph in 5.6 seconds and a top speed of 155 mph. Fuel consumption on the official combined cycle is 37.7 mpg and CO2 emissions are 176 g/km.
The other petrol model is the 428i with a 2.0 litre engine that outputs 245hp (5,000-6,500rpm) with peak torque 350Nm from 1,250 rpm. It takes 6.4 seconds to reach 62 mph with a top speed of 155 mph. The official combined consumption is recorded at 41.5 mpg / 159 g/km CO2 for the manual transmission where the eight-speed automatic is 42.8 mpg/154 g/km.
The only diesel is the 420d which features a 2.0 litre engine outputting 184 hp at 4,000 rpm with peak torque of 380Nm between 1,750-2,750rpm. Which will propel the 420d from 0-62 mph in 8.2 seconds and a top speed of 146 mph. Combined fuel consumption is 55.4mpg and CO2 emissions of 133g/km. With the optional eight-speed Sport automatic gearbox combined fuel consumption falls to 58.9mpg and CO2 emissions to 127g/km.BMW 4 Series Convertible Trim Levels
There are five trim levels - SE, Sport, Luxury, Modern and M Sport trim.
Standard equipment for all models includes front and rear parking sensors, heated electric front seats, Servotronic steering, a Sport-multi-function leather steering wheel and Xenon headlights. Plus a DAB radio, Dakota leather upholstery with SunReflective technology, Two-zone air conditioning, Cruise control, Bluetooth, USB, Comfort Go, Drive Performance Control, iDrive Controller and 6.5-inch colour screen.
The Sport gains a high-gloss black finish for exterior body elements in the front and rear bumpers and the kidney grille slats. The interior features contrasting black and red accents with red contrast stitching on the sports steering wheel and the red trim rings in the inner circle of the instrument dials.
The Modern trim comprises matt chrome and satin highlight the exterior detailing. On the inside there is light-coloured dashboard, complimented with a steering wheel in dark oyster (both also available in black). Leather upholstery in oyster or black, and a choice of four trim surfaces with accent strips in Pearl Gloss Chrome, while the door panels are available in two-tone colours.
The Luxury model gains the Business Media Package - the exterior is detailed in chrome, which is also used on the interior, including the frame surrounding the audio and air conditioning system. It also features high-gloss wood strips, leather seats with contrast.
The M-Sport trim is also equipped Business Media Package are with the Aerodynamic Package includes numerous body components such as the front apron with large air intake, the rear bumper with diffuser and side skirts. It gains BMW Individual High-gloss Shadow line trim and the exclusive optional exterior paint Estoril Blue metallic; 18-inch or optional M design19-inch light-alloy wheels. The interior sees M doorsill finishers, an M leather steering wheel, while the driver and front passenger also have exclusive sport seats with M piping and royal blue contrast stitching. M Sport suspension is also included while the M Sport braking system with contrasting blue calipers is now optionally available.
