There are many aficionados who believe that the annual race meeting organised by the Bentley Drivers Club at Silverstone, remains one of the few bastions of true club racing. Always a friendly and relaxed meeting for both competitors and spectators, yet still providing some of the best in on-track excitement, and 2003 will be no exception!
Following the traditional Bentley Parade, a very eclectic mix of races, which truly cater for all tastes, includes the usual Bentley scratch and handicap events, mixed pre and post-war fields in two allcomers races, a Formula Libre scratch race for Grand Prix and sports cars manufactured before the sixties, which can see Maserati single-seaters battling it out with ‘D’ type Jaguars, a pre-war team event for three car teams of either Bentleys, Aston Martins or Lagondas (spot the connection), a round of the Morgan Challenge series, and a scratch race for MG ‘T’ series, and Thames Ditton-built ACs. All in all, a recipe for an entertaining day’s racing.
But that isn’t all! 2003 is already shaping up to be the most important in the history of the Bentley marque since……take your pick from the Twenties! If you spent June under a rock, then you may not be aware that, Bentley not only won the Le Mans 24 Hour race for the sixth time, but the team finished intact comfortably in first and second places. If you were unable to get to Le Sarthe, then this is a perfect opportunity to see the Bentley Speed 8 being exercised as it should, in one or both of two demonstration runs it will make during the day. We shall either have the honour of five times Le Mans winner, Derek Bell, or one of the team Team Bentley drivers behind the wheel.
But Bentley Motors is not satisfied with just winning Le Mans! They are about to launch undoubtedly the most exciting new motor car yet this century upon the world at large – the Bentley Continental GT! 6 litres from a W12 engine, producing 560bhp, delivered to the road by all four wheels, and achieving a top speed of 198 mph, and a 0 – 62 mph time of 4.7 seconds. And this incredible new Bentley will also be lapping the circuit with Derek Bell at the wheel - you many never get another chance to see this car anywhere near its performance potential, in the flesh!
This is an event you should not miss, and we would be delighted to welcome you there. Ticket information is available from Silverstone, 01327 857271, or just turn up on the day.
