A new bi-turbo V8 petrol engine has replaced the V10 FSI engine in the Audi S6 and S6 Avant.
The new Audi S6 and S6 Avant are powered by Audi’s new V8 petrol bi-turbo which produces 420PS and will deliver 550Nm between 1400 – 5300 rpm. Which will launch the S6 from 0-62mph in 4.6 seconds and then on to an electronically limited top speed of 155 mph. According to Audi fuel consumption is reduced by 25% over the outgoing V10 FSI engine, should you expect around 29 mpg.
CO2 emissions are rated as 225 g/km for the S6 Saloon and for the S6 Avant 226 g/km.
Both models are fitted with Audi’s adaptive air suspension in its firmer ‘sport’ configuration. The suspension system includes variable damping which can lower the body by 10 millimetres. There are bespoke 19-inch cast aluminium wheels with a five parallel spoke design which frame the black calipers of the front and rear internally ventilated disc brakes, which can be replaced by carbon fibre-ceramic discs as an option.
The S6 models feature Audi’s drive select adaptive dynamics system which controls the throttle pedal response, the shift points of the S tronic transmission, the servo boost of the electromechanical steering, the characteristics of the adaptive air suspension and the sport differential. The driver can adjust the operation of these systems in five stages.
On the options list you can specify LED headlights, adaptive headlights, head-up display, a parking system with 360° top view camera, powered rear hatch control including optional hands-free sensor control, a 15-speaker Bang & Olufsen audio system, MMI navigation plus incorporating the MMI touch input system and Bluetooth phone preparation High with Audi connect enabling in-car internet connection.
Driver assistance options include various versions of the Audi pre sense safety system, adaptive cruise control with stop & go function, Audi side assist, active lane assist, the speed limit display and the night vision assistant with highlighting of detected pedestrians.
Prices for the Audi S6 Saloon start at £53,995 and £56,050 for the S6 Avant.The S6 and S6 Avant will be available to order in May with first deliveries expected in July 2012.
