Volvo XC90 Review
The long awaited Volvo XC90 was launched in the UK in January 2003 and is Volvo's first entry into the SUV market. So eagerly awaited was the XC90 that 2200 UK and over 15,000 worldwide customers placed orders before it was even officially launched and in January 2003 What Car? magazine christened the new Volvo XC90 ‘Best 4x4’ in its ‘Car of the Year 2003 Awards'.
With the introduction of the XC90 Volvo is finally able compete with premium brand SUV rivals such as the BMW X5, Land Rover Discovery, Lexus RX300, Mercedes-Benz M-Class and Volkswagen Touareg.
The Volvo XC90 is available with a choice of two petrol engines the 2.5 litre T5 & 2.9 litre T6 and the 2.4 litre D5 diesel. Three transmissions are available a 6-speed manual and a 4-speed and 5-speed Geartronic.
We tested the XC90 T6 SE to see how Volvo fare within the competitive world of premium SUV's.
