Volvo XC70 Road Test

Volvo XC70
Build Quality
Volvo are renowned for their safety and build quality and they have certainly excelled with the new XC70. The materials used are of a high quality and in keeping the price tag. We very much doubt that you would spend much time at your local dealership. The warranty covers you for three years or 60,000 miles, whichever comes first.
Value For Money
The Volvo XC70 is £2-£4,000 cheaper than its nearest rival the Audi A6 allroad quattro. Some of the add on packs can add to the base price, such as the Driver Support Pack which comprises BLIS (Blind Spot Information System), ACC (Adaptive Cruise Control) with Distance Alert and Collision Warning with Auto Brake and LDW (Lane Departure Warning) with DAC (Driver Alert Control) which costs £1500, but that is good value when compared to similar luxury cars.
The Volvo XC70 is not cheap but when compared to its rivals, it sits comfortably with its peers.
Conclusion
We enjoyed the Volvo XC70 despite is flaws, which mainly centre on its handling and gruff engine. It is a well thought out estate car with the security of all wheel drive, which makes it ideal for skiing holidays and in terrains where the weather is inclement.
Overall we have a preference for the Volvo XC90 but it is not the same kind of proposition - Volvo tell us that the XC70 is more orientated to the outdoor pursuits rather than the urban school run.
Ultimately we prefer the handling of the Audi A6 allroad but the Volvo offers a better family orientated package with some of the best safety equipment and driver’s aids available.
