Safety

The Volvo XC60 was tested by Euro NCAP in 2009 and scored a five star rating out of the maximum possible five stars. It scored 94% for adult occupancy, 79% for child occupancy, 48% for pedestrian protection and 86% for safety assist.

Since 2009 the Euro NCAP tests have progressed and testing has become more stringent and the XC60 has seen its safety equipment improved and includes such features as BLIS, Lane Departure Warning, Forward Alert, Adaptive Cruise Control and City Safe.

Infotainment

Volvo has revised its tech for the XC60 and you now get features such as a 3G car modem which allows you set the car up with a Wi-Fi hotspot, or you can use the internal browser to view web pages. You can also tether your smart phone to send or receive data. Not too sure how useful the web browser is – but I guess is better have than not have.

This being an R-Design Nav model comes with as the name suggests Satellite Navigation – the system is easy to use and the display is clear. It supports full postcode entry, although the interface does seem clunky via the rotary control on central console.

There is a DAB radio tuner, single slot CD player and iPod connectivity- the system is perfectly acceptable.

Conclusion

The Volvo XC60 was initially launched in 2008, since then it has undergone a number of revisions which have kept it up to date – it is a great family car with the premium Volvo kudos. The interior and exterior oozes Scandinavian minimalism which we are huge fans of and it can safely accommodate a family, their dog and luggage.
