Clean Outside

In recent years, the number of people suffering from allergies and other forms of hypersensitivity has been growing rapidly. Research from Asthma UK shows that nearly one third of today's children suffer with various breathing problems. Air quality is a real concern and reducing emissions of carbon dioxide - a major greenhouse gas - is the biggest environmental challenge now facing the automotive industry.

As well as ensuring all Volvo engines are more efficient with increasingly lower tailpipe emissions, the Volvo PremAir® system is also fitted to nearly all Volvo models as standard. The car radiator has a catalytic coating which converts up to 75% of ground level ozone into oxygen, cleaning the air as the car is driven.

Clean Inside

A cabin pollen filter and Volvo’s Interior Air Quality System (IAQS) are standard equipment (except on the Volvo C70). This system automatically removes impurities and odours from the incoming air and makes the interior air cleaner than the air outside the car.

The materials used in Volvo car interiors meet the requirements of the international Oeko-Tex 100 standard, which means that fabrics, threads, carpets, plastics and seatbelts are also tested for allergenic dyes, pesticides and heavy metals to detect chemicals that trigger allergies, even under extreme temperatures, and ensure that all materials used in Volvo car interiors are free from emissions.

Other components such as the handbrake button, load anchoring eyebolts, Space Ball and steering wheel badge are tested for contact allergens and meet the EU directive for nickel leakage from jewellery.
