New 130 PS Diesel Engine And Even Better Value For 2003 Sharan

Volkswagen’s versatile Sharan rings in the new year with two pieces of good news: first, the addition of a new TDI PD engine with 130 PS, and second, a price reduction of £450 on the continuing 115 PS diesel.

The new engine is a more powerful version of the current 1.9-litre TDI PD, with 130 PS at 4000 rpm and 229 lbs ft of torque at 1900 rpm. Like the 115 PS models, all Sharans with the new powerplant are fitted with a six-speed manual transmission as standard.

Unusually, both performance and economy have been improved with the new engine, when compared with the already impressive 115 PS model. For example, the 0 to 62 mph time falls from 13.7 to 12.8 seconds, while the official combined fuel economy figure climbs from 42.8 to 43.5 mpg. That enables the Sharan TDI PD 130 PS to offer a realistic range of over 660 miles between fill ups.

With the £450 reduction, the TDI PD 115 PS models now start at £19,735 with the SL, while the 130 PS equivalent costs £20,185. All Sharans have seven seats as standard, along with ABS brakes; air conditioning; remote central locking with alarm; four airbags; multifunction computer; and a three year/60,000 mile warranty.
