Touran - Prices Revealed
Published: 19th July 2003
The Touran is the only vehicle in the compact MPV class to be offered with either five or seven seats. The latter, at a premium of £500 across the range, is expected to account for the majority of Touran sales, as the third row can be easily folded completely flat into the boot floor when not required, for maximum flexibility.
Standard equipment is comprehensive, with all models benefiting from ABS anti-lock braking system; ESP (Electronic Stabilisation Programme); twin front and side airbags, plus a curtain airbag system and three-point seatbelts for all passengers; central locking with remote control; CD player; and semi-automatic air conditioning.
Initially there will be a choice of four engines in the Touran: two petrol units comprising a 1.6-litre 102 PS and 1.6-litre FSI 115 PS, and two diesels: a 1.9-litre TDI 100 PS and a 2.0-litre TDI 136 PS 16-valve. All powerplants meet with Euro 4 emissions regulations – great news for company car drivers, who will be exempt from the three per cent diesel tax levy.
In the UK, the compact MPV class is a significant market sector that now accounts for some 170,000 units per year. Volkswagen expects to sell approximately 5,000 Tourans this year, rising to 11,000 in a full year.
