This represents a £755 premium over the price of the E model on which it is based; yet the Final Edition benefits from £1,625 worth of extra equipment.
Other engine choices are the 1.6-litre 105 PS, 1.6-litre 102 PS automatic and the frugal 1.9-litre 100 PS TDI with Volkswagen’s award-winning unit injector technology.
Also still available are a limited number of Golf Match models, offering high specification at a low price. Starting from just £10,495 RRP ‘on the road’*, the package includes 15" Avus II alloy wheels; a CD player; remote control locking and alarm; air conditioning; and electric windows and door mirrors.
