New Volkswagen Golf Sport
Published: 10th August 2004
The Golf Sport is expected to appeal to those customers who want a sporty appearance but who do not require the higher output powerplants found at the top of the Golf line-up. The new model has lowered sports suspension, front sports seats, 16" ‘Hockenheim’* alloy wheels and body-coloured bump and side strips, offering a more dynamic character than the more comfort-orientated Golf SE.
The Golf Sport sits alongside the Golf SE, offering customers a host of extra equipment over the S model. This includes a multifunction computer; alarm with interior protection; Climatic semi-automatic air conditioning**; leather-trimmed three-spoke steering wheel, gear knob, gaiter and handbrake grip; and a 10-speaker radio/CD player.
This comes on top of the latest Golf’s comprehensive list of standard equipment, which includes among a host of other items, ABS with ESP (Electronic Stabilisation Programme); six airbags; electric front windows; electrically heated and adjustable door mirrors; and remote central locking.
The new Golf has got off to a flying start in the UK since its launch in January, exceeding sales expectations while collecting top awards along the way - most notably the prestigious title of What Car? Car of the Year 2004.
Prices for the Golf range start at £11,995 RRP on the road for the 1.4-litre S model with three doors.
