Fans Pick Their Favourite Golf Adverts For One-Off Special

Published: 28th February 2004
Monday 1 March, Channel 4, 8.15 pm

Visitors to Volkswagen’s website have chosen their favourite Golf television adverts, which will be shown in a special dedicated commercial break on Channel 4 this Monday.

During the last week, Golf fans have been able to vote on-line for their favourite Golf advert from each of the first four generations. The winners were:

  • Mk I: ‘Japanese’ –a Japanese presenter calmly talks to camera as cars drop around him
  • Mk II: ‘Casino’ – the man who put a million on black, only for it to come up red
  • Mk III: ‘UFO’ – news-style interview with two Deep Southerners who spot an unusual object at their filling station with an emblem ‘kinda like a Vee Dubya’
  • Mk IV: ‘Cry’ – various ‘souped-up’ Golfs look forlorn at the treatment they have been subjected to, believing they were ‘best left alone’
The 180-second break will finish with the latest in a long line of memorable Golf advertising, showing the current ‘30 Years in the Making’ commercial for the Mk V. This follows a Volkswagen factory-worker’s 30-year career at the company’s HQ in Wolfsburg, in tandem with the Golf’s evolution over five generations.

The Golf-only ad break will take place at approximately 8.15pm, during the popular Channel 4 programme ‘Salvage Squad’.
