The noise from the Volkswagen Polo GTI's engine is fantastic, and as such, it is not an issue that you can hear it from within the cabin; it isn't intrusive but is apparent enough to enjoy it. Road and wind noise on the other hand are contained.

The Volkswagen Polo's designers wanted to provide an interior more in line with a car in a higher class, and they have achieved it. The plastics are of very high quality and have a pleasing texture on the surface.

The dashboard and centre console have clearly had ergonomic consideration, with the centre console being angled slightly toward the driver with all controls intuitively laid out and within easy reach of the driver.

The instruments have been redesigned, with a new digital fuel gauge and new white backlighting as seen on the Volkswagen Golf.

Climatic semi-automatic air conditioning is standard on Volkswagen Polo S, Moda A/C, SE and SEL models, and includes a coolable glovebox. These models all have the option of an upgrade to fully automatic climate control.

In reverse gear or when using the windscreen washer sprays, the system will automatically start recirculating the air to avoid the smell of exhaust or windscreen washer fluid from entering the cabin.

Infotainment

The Volkswagen Polo S features the RCD 210 radio with an MP3 compatible CD player and four speakers. Above this, models feature the RCD 310 radio with MP3 compatible CD player with 4 front and 2 rear speakers.

For the first time, the Volkswagen Polo is available with the optional RNS 310 Satellite Navigation systems, which sees a radio-navigation system with touchscreen, multimedia interface, MP3 compatibility (via either CD or SD card) and an auxiliary socket on its front panel.

Whilst the system is intuitive and offers fast response and satellite lock, the screen is a little on the small side at five inches, and there is enough room on the dash to fit a 6.5 inch screen without looking cramped. This is, however somewhat counteracted with the addition of a secondary display in the centre console which provides the driver with an indication of direction and the next turn.

Conclusion

Sometimes, everything about a car just works, and the Volkswagen Polo GTI is a prime example of that. Whether you are using the car for commuting to work, a short trip to the shops or the school run, the VW Polo will not disappoint. We thoroughly enjoyed our time with the Volkswagen Polo GTI and we wholeheartedly recommend it.
