Volkswagen Golf Plus

Build Quality

The Volkswagen Golf Plus feels solid, safe and reliable. Build quality is excellent and the materials used are of a high standard and should prove durable in the long term.

Value For Money

The Volkswagen Golf Plus is competitively priced within the small MPV segment. The Golf Plus is priced at approximately £500 more than the equivalent Golf hatchback model and offers a high level of standard safety equipment combined with good levels of refinement.

All Golf Plus models are set to run on variable servicing times. The on-board computer informs the driver when the vehicle needs a service or, for example, an oil change. Rather than having fixed service intervals determined by mileage, a range of engine sensors electronically monitors the vehicle's oil temperature, oil pressure, oil level and brake pad wear to establish when a service is needed. A dashboard display informs the driver when a service is due. Alternatively, customers can opt for a 10,000 mile or one-year Extended service schedule.

With the variable system, it can be possible to drive for up to 19,000 miles or 24 months on petrol models without a major service. Some diesel engines can reach 30,000 miles or 24 months. Customers can choose between Variable or Extended Servicing at PDI (pre-delivery inspection) and though it is possible to change from one to another during the vehicle's life, it can only be done when a full inspection service is due.

Overall Opinion

The Golf Plus is Volkswagen's long awaited entry into the small MPV sector and is aimed at the young style conscious family buyer. Volkswagen have done an excellent job with the exterior and interior design of the Golf Plus creating a car that in our opinion is more attractive than the Golf hatchback.

The new Golf Plus is marketed as 'a Golf, just a little bit bigger' and this sums up the Golf Plus perfectly as it provides more room and flexibility than the traditional Golf hatchback can offer.

Both its performance and handling are commendable and it is well worth a look if you want to stay away from more run of the mill manufacturers such as Ford, Renault, Toyota and Vauxhall.

We did not spend long enough with the Golf Plus to draw our normal conclusions and therefore we have only been able to give you an initial insight into the new Volkswagen Golf Plus. We hope later in the year to bring you a full review.
