Volkswagen Golf Plus
Ease of Use
The Volkswagen Golf Plus is an exceptionally versatile vehicle and thanks to its increased height (raised by 95 mm to 1580 mm), the Golf Plus offers more interior space. This means more flexibility for the customer, thanks to more stowage areas and load space, more leg room for all occupants, and a more flexible rear seat arrangement. These seats can be shifted lengthways by 160 mm and folded via a new system, which means they are lowered automatically when folded down, resulting in an almost level luggage space. They can also split 60/40, with the middle seat doubling as a fold-down drinks table. Furthermore, a double height boot floor (depending on trim level) allows more adaptable stowage and a maximum capacity of 505 litres with the rear seats in place. The lower position provides maximum space and the upper position gives a flat floor and hidden stowage for sports gear or a folding pushchair.
Thanks to the large glazed area visibility is excellent all round and parking is easy. The large door openings and raised seating area make the Golf Plus a very easy vehicle to access.
For the first time in this class, LED technology is used for the rear lights, while directional headlights - which follow steering direction - are also available as an option.
Safety and Security
The high levels of body rigidity brought about by the advanced construction techniques employed in the Golf Plus make it safe, thanks to the strength inherent in the body. Key to this is the employment of laser seam welding in the construction of the Golf Plus.
The new Golf Plus features a sophisticated braking system with ABS and ESP (electronic stability programme) as standard across the range.
All models feature: twin front airbags, passenger airbag (which can be deactivated), driver and front passenger side airbags, curtain airbag system for front and rear passengers, active front head restraints, three rear head restraints and three rear three-point seat belts and Isofix child seat preparation for the two outer rear seats.
Highlights of the security systems include: an in-cut key which is more difficult to copy, free-wheeling mechanism for the door locks, enhanced steering lock clutch to resist forcing, protection boxes surrounding door lock mechanisms, alternating code, transponder based engine immobiliser, alternating code for remote control central locking, an advanced alarm system (standard on SE models and above), factory-fitted stereo with CD player which is VW branded and security coded and electronic 'CAN-bus' system linking central locking, theft protection system, electric windows and mirrors and internal lighting.
Insurance groups for the Golf Plus range from 4E to 13E.
