Volkswagen has revealed prices for the new Golf Estate ahead of its UK launch in August, and from Friday 8 June it will be available to order from Volkswagen Retailers. Prices start at £14,347 RRP OTR for the entry-level S 1.6-litre and rise to £20,417 for the 2.0-litre TDI 140 PS with DSG and DPF (diesel particulate filter).
Three trim levels are available - S, SE and Sportline - along with three engines, a 1.6-litre 102 PS petrol and 1.9-litre 105 PS and 2.0-litre 140 PS TDI units. A DSG automatic gearbox is available with the two diesel powerplants.
All models are generously equipped with Climatic air conditioning, electric windows and door mirrors, a radio/CD player and remote central locking featuring as standard. Safety is also key: all models benefit from ABS with HBA (Hydraulic Brake Assist) and ESP (Electronic Stabilisation Programme) as well as front, side and curtain airbag systems and whiplash-optimised head restraints for front passengers.
Moving up the range, SE adds 16-inch alloy wheels, an alarm, roof rails, coming/ leaving home lighting function and cruise control among other items. Sportline gains extra chrome trim, sports seats and sports suspension (lowered by around 15 mm)
and 17-inch alloys.
This latest generation of Golf Estate brings versatility and load-carrying ability to the Golf range. Loadspace is 505 litres with the seats in place, rising to a maximum of 1,550 litres when the rear seats are folded flat into the boot floor. A wide tailgate and low loading lip boost practicality while a chrome grille section - similar to the ‘face’ on the Eos - gives the new car an imposing and stylish appearance.
