Widest Vauxhall Range Just Raring To Go | Part Five

The SRi turbo version is easily recognisable by its 17 inch alloy wheels and rear spoiler. Sportiest performance of all comes from the GSi where 3.2 V6 power lurks beneath the bonnet!

It is well worth looking out for the Vectra Active Special Edition which packs a lot of goodies into its choice of 1.8i 16v petrol or 2.0DTi diesel engine – like metallic paint, 17 inch alloy wheels, colour keyed door handles, dark style head and tail lamps (from SRi/GSi), and chrome front door sill plates.

For true driving enthusiasts the no-compromise sports roadster VX220 2.2 litre (top speed 135mph) has £2,250 off the list price, giving it an on-the-road price of £20,745 on cars built before mid-January this year.

Drivers are not cosseted by creature comforts like air conditioning, electric windows and central locking because they add weight and therefore compromise the VX220’s true character. Safety essentials such as ABS, a driver’s airbag and seat-belt pre-tensioners are standard.

Low weight combined with good levels of power and torque from the 2.2 litre engine mean strong on the road performance: a 0-60mph time of just 5.6 seconds and a top speed of 137mph.

But there’s more, for the VX220 Turbo is the ultimate driving machine from Vauxhall. The 2.0 litre turbo engine promises something special: engine power output of 200hp; 0 to 60mph in under 5 seconds; 0 to 100mph in under 13 seconds; a power to weight ratio of 4.9kg/hp; a top speed of 151mph.

While the VX220 is the ultimate performance car, the award-winning Zafira MPV is the ultimate family car.

Seven seats – or one seat – a trick performed in just a few seconds, with nothing removed from the car is one reason for its massive success.

Its ingenious seating system, called Flex7, means there’s room for everyone. Or if you need it, room for everything or somewhere in between.

Safety is paramount in the Zafira, with a comprehensive seatbelt system, twin front airbags, side impact protection, and a host of optional safety features like front seat side-impact and full-size curtain airbags and active front seat head restraints.

Perfect for the family is the optional AudioVision DVD system, complete with flip-down colour screen, infra-red remote control and wireless headphones. You’ll never, ever, again hear that plaintiff "are we nearly there yet" cry!

You’ll get there fastest in the Zafira GSi turbo model, fastest MPV on the roads of Europe. Fast is a top speed of 137mph and 0-60mph in 7.6 seconds. But you’ll also get there in as much style, safety and comfort in any member of the Zafira family powered by 1.6, 1.8 and 2.2 litre petrol engines, as well as the 2.0 litre turbo, or the money-saving 2.0 DTi turbo diesel that returns a shade under 45mpg in the combined mode and still reaches 109mph.
  • Look out for the Zafira Active, based on the Club model, but with lots of extras built into the under-£15,000 price, including ABS, a stereo radio/CD player, 16 inch alloy sports wheels, sports front seats and body coloured door handles and coloured tailgate handle.
