- A driver’s car for car enthusiasts
- 5.7 litre V8 RWD coupe
- Muscle car inspired
- Incredible performance
Born out of the muscle car dream, Monaro is offered with a huge, 5.7 litre, V8 engine, powerful enough to catapult the car to 60mph in a matter of just six seconds. Boasting 329 hp and 343 lb ft of torque, Monaro has a top speed in excess of 160 mph.
This incredible performance is directed through a close ratio, six-speed manual gearbox, designed to wring out every hp and lb ft from the immense powerplant.
Designed in the muscle car tradition, Monaro is rear-wheel drive. This equates to an exciting, inspiring drive with superb handling and – with standard switchable traction control – the option of serious fun.
But, while fun is available on tap, precautions have been taken against over indulgence. A rear limited slip differential – standard on Monaro – improves traction, stability and handling, and allows more control of the back end, both improving safety and simultaneously ensuring Monaro is a fully fledged driver’s car. In alliance with the sports suspension – offering sports springs at both ends and gas pressure dampers at the rear – Monaro simply feels awesome and inspirational on the open road.
Eighteen inch wheels shod with wide, low profile, 235/40 R18 tyres transmit all this engineering and technology to the road giving Monaro precise steering response and predictability combined with maximum cornering tractability.
And, just as importantly, it sounds great. Fitted with an intermediate pipe, Monaro has a blend of huskiness and sophistication, which perfectly fits its opulent performance.
Power for £ value and performance
And there’s even better news to come. Available from the summer will be a 380 hp version of Monaro, featuring all of the above and much, much more.
Boasting extreme power, extreme good looks, extreme drivability and extreme desirability, there is no coupe that offers such a good overall package. Power for £ you simply won’t find a better bargain on any road today.
A V8 muscle car for the car enthusiast with a price tag to shame the competition, Monaro rides and handles like a luxury sports car, with immense poise and assurance. And yet it costs only a fraction of the price of its main competitors. Monaro rules.Published 9 March 2004
