Improve Your Driving And Health With Vauxhall

Cabin Filter Replacement Cuts Pollution

A cabin filter and air conditioning service campaign is being mounted by Vauxhall to remind drivers of the vital contribution these now commonplace comfort features make to health and safety at the wheel.

Just about every new car sold in the UK since the mid nineties has come with a cabin filter as original equipment, and up to 90 per cent of all the vehicles on our roads now have standard air conditioning.

As well as protecting passengers from traffic pollution that can often trigger allergies, especially in younger children, they also improve driver concentration. Yet we take for granted the efficiency of these devices at our peril.

Like every other component, they both need regular servicing for maximum effect. Cabin filters can become clogged with dust, soot, rubber particles from tyres and up to 99.5 per cent of other airborne pollution they should prevent from reaching the car's occupants.

If you have experienced unpleasant smells emitting from the ventilation ducts, especially after starting the engine first thing in the morning, your car could certainly benefit from a disinfecting treatment, which is currently available from participating Vauxhall dealers and MasterFit Centres throughout the country.

Vauxhall's Airco Clean treatment cleanses the surfaces inside the air conditioning system, killing any germs and bacteria that may be growing inside the heater matrix and ventilation ducts. These can cause unpleasant smells in the passenger compartment.

A new cabin filter will also enhance driver and passenger comfort. A single-stage cabin air filter on a small car like the Corsa can be replaced by a Vauxhall dealer or MasterFit Centre in less than 15 minutes.

Owners of older Vauxhall cars can even take advantage of the latest cabin filter technology by upgrading to a two-stage carbon cabin air filter of the type now standard on new vehicles with air conditioning or climate control.

This also filters out gaseous fumes such as ozone, which can cause irritation, coughing and headaches, before they reach the passenger compartment. Made to the same dimensions as the original cabin filter, it provides a worthwhile benefit at modest extra cost.

For owners who are unsure when their air conditioning or climate control system was last checked for efficiency, a full 18 point air conditioning service is available from participating dealers and MasterFit Centres.

This covers all elements of the system and includes replacement of the cabin filter. Owners should contact their local Vauxhall dealer for details.
