Vauxhall had its highest-ever March volume, selling 56,803 cars on new ‘03’ plates and taking a 13 per cent market share. Corsa was the nation’s second most popular car.
Vauxhall’s sales figures for the first quarter have been impressive and for the second time in three months, Vauxhall’s fleet sales were in number one position, reaching 35,630 in March.
In the van market Britain’s youngest van range continues to make converts – aided by a strong display at the Commercial Vehicle show last month. Van sales were 69.6 per cent up on last year, with first quarter sales at 12871. The Combo kept up its remarkable performance by trebling sales figures in the fleet sector.
Vauxhall is enthusiastic about the continuation of the increased sales as it moves into the second quarter. With the Signum, Meriva and the high-roof Vivaro van due to go on sale later this year, Vauxhall could smash its own record!
Both Signum and Meriva go on sale on 2 June in a double assault on two separate but distinct segments.
The Meriva mini MPV is designed to take the stress out of family driving, and is set to follow in the successful footsteps of its bigger brother, the multi-award winning Zafira.
With the unique FlexSpace seating system, it adapts perfectly to suit the family size. Similarly, the Signum has the FlexSpace seating system, which combined with the overhead storage console, sets it apart from its rivals. The Signum is set to enter into the premium sector, providing space, comfort and a new Vauxhall style.
The VX220 Turbo, Vauxhall’s very own ‘pocket rocket’ was launched in February. The turbo roadster is on sale now and with 0-60 in 4.7 seconds, this car will certainly get hearts racing. After being on sale for less than a month, 25% of the UK allocation for VX220 Turbo is already sold.
Justin Wilson, the new British F1 driver collected his new VX220 turbo this month at Palmersport at Bedford Autodrome. Wilson is an instructor for VX220 owners at the Autodrome and was delighted to eventually get his hands on his own set of wheels.
Vauxhall’s Dualfuel vehicle sales are continuing to grow; the first quarter of this year saw a 64 per cent increase, as Vauxhall LPG / petrol sales reached 1053. Next month, a brand-new 1.2 16v ECOTEC engined Corsa will be on sale, to further strengthen Vauxhall’s Dualfuel product range.Published 20 April 2003
