Sales of Vauxhall’s handsome Astra Convertible are soaring, and not surprisingly with a choice of four engines, a top-value Edition 100 model marking Vauxhall’s centenary and a new range of Irmscher styling cues.
In the first two months of the year – and that included the dark days of January when thoughts do not perhaps naturally turn to open-topped wind-in-the-hair motoring – 300 Convertibles were registered, an 83 per cent increase over the same period last year.
This spring and summer, Astra Convertible will be even more desirable thanks to the ready availability of a sparkling 200 hp 2.0 litre Turbo engine alongside three other choices of 1.6 16v, 1.8 and 2.2 litre power packs.
The Astra Edition 100 convertible version that is resplendent in its own unique pearlescent Centenary Blue replaces the former Linea Rossa.
The Convertible is the first in its class with a remote control electric soft-top as standard that opens or closes in just 30 seconds. There are four full-size seats, lots of interior space, and a large boot that can easily accommodate, for example, two sets of golf clubs.
An extended range of Irmscher styling adds a whole new dimension and more individuality. For £995 including VAT a styling pack consisting of body-colour front spoiler, rear skirt extensions and rear spoiler along with a sports silencer with split oval design chrome-plated tailpipes and Irmscher’s "i" logo chrome-effect badge will transform the car. In addition, there are dozens of additional Irmscher style items from a rear spoiler through sports mirrors and aluminium effect gear lever and handbrake surround. "With the Edition 100 and the Irmscher styling, combined with the car’s engine choices, its good looks and its versatility, we confidently predict a great season for our open top," says Astra brand manager Andrew Cullis.
Convertible on-the-road prices range from £17,385 to £21,610.
