Vauxhall Zafira Road Test
Published: 15th March 2006
Vauxhall Zafira
Rivals
- Citroen Xsara Picasso, Ford C-MAX, Renault Scenic & Vauxhall Touran
What We Liked
- Flexible seating
- Ride height Storage space
- Adaptive Forward Lighting (Option)
- Panoramic Roof (option)
What We Disliked
- The 1.8 engine - too unrefined for our liking
What We'd Like To See
- Rear electric windows on all models
- ESP as standard
- Drive away locking
Build Quality
Everything seemed very well put together and thoughtfully Vauxhall have chosen family friendly materials.
Value For Money
The base cost of our car started out at £16,395, which is good value for money for a 7 seat MPV. But when the options were added it topped out at £20,820, which changes things a little. Of course you may not want the Adaptive Forward Lighting at £750, the Panoramic Roof at £850 or the Navigation System at £1250 but these options do add something to the practicality and the desirability of the Zafira. If I was buying the car used I certainly would try and seek these options out. We were pleased to see that service intervals are a pocket friendly 20,000 miles or every year whichever occurs first.
Overall Opinion
The Vauxhall Zafira is the Swiss Army Knife of cars it is adaptive, flexible and accommodating - overall it is a great family car. We didn’t think much of the 1.8 petrol engine, but it wouldn’t stop us buying the car but perhaps we would have to look at Vauxhall’s other engines options.
