Prices Announced For New Avensis 2.4 VVT-i and 2.0 D-CAT

Toyota has announced prices for new versions of the Avensis which will go on sale in the UK on 2 January 2004. The range is to grow to include two new engine choices: the flagship 2.4-litre VVT-i petrol and 2.0 D-CAT, the world’s cleanest diesel engine.

On the road prices for the 2.4-litre models start at £21,200 and for the D-CAT Avensis at £17,200. Full pricing information is detailed in the table below.

The 161bhp 2.4-litre VVT-i engine will be available in T4 and T Spirit saloon and hatchback body styles. Coupled to a new multi-mode five-speed automatic gearbox, it will power the Avensis from nought to 62mph in 9.1 seconds and achieve a top speed, where permitted, of 137mph. Its excellent driving character is reinforced by impressive torque figures, a maximum 230Nm being achieved at 3,800rpm. Performance is not at the cost of fuel efficiency with 29.7mpg combined cycle consumption.

The 2.0-litre D-CAT (Diesel Clean Advanced Technology) marks an exceptional advance in clean engine performance, achieving lower than ever emissions of nitrogen oxides (NOx) and particulates (PM). Its clean operation has been achieved through ground-breaking new technology, most importantly the new DPNR (Diesel Particulate NOx Reduction) four-way catalyst. This marks a world first in continuous and simultaneous filtering of NOx and PM. The unit requires no routine maintenance or cleaning and the engine runs on low sulphur diesel fuel with no need for any special additives.

The 114bhp D-CAT engine matches the performance of the standard 2.0-litre D-4D unit and returns an excellent 46.3mpg in combined cycle driving. The D-CAT engine will be available exclusively in T3-X, T4 and T Spirit saloon versions.

The Avensis is unique in its class in boasting an engine line-up in which all units – 1.8, 2.0 and 2.4-litre VVT-i petrol, 2.0 D-4D and 2.0 D-CAT, all comply with the Euro IV emissions standards, well ahead of their enforcement date in 2005.
