This system also incorporates a Rear View Monitor and Park Assist, which make reverse parking manoeuvres both simpler and safer. Clear colour images from a miniature camera mounted discreetly on the tailgate are transmitted to the dashboard display screen when reverse gear is selected. In Manual Assist Mode, the image on the screen is overlaid with fixed guidelines, which indicate the correct path to follow into a parking space. If desired, these guidelines can be removed from the screen at the touch of a switch.

In reverse parking assist mode, the guidelines move in line with the vehicle, showing the driver the steering angle required throughout the parking manoeuvre.

New Grade Specification

The T3 grade builds on the strong specification of the previous GS grade, but features in addition automatic air conditioning, audio controls mounted on the steering wheel, a radio antenna integrated into the rear window glass, and an easy-read Optitron instrument display. The electrically adjustable heated door mirrors now retract fully.

As with the GS, the equipment list also includes a six-speaker audio system with CD player, electric windows front and rear and remote central double locking.

The T Spirit grade is the same as for the earlier GLS, but with the satellite navigation system upgraded to provide ETA and new-design 16-inch alloy wheels. As with the GLS, it also offers a leather trimmed steering wheel, front fog lamps, roof rails and air conditioning for the rear of the cabin.

An option package is available for both T3 and T Spirit versions comprising a twin sunroof with manual front section and electric rear, Vehicle Stability Control and Traction Control.

On-the-road prices and insurance groups for the 2004 model year Toyota Avensis Verso are given in the table below. Prices are slightly higher than for the previous, equivalent models, but offer better value all-round when the improved equipment specification is taken into account.

Insurance groups are unchanged, in spite of the extra standard equipment offered, and all carry the "E" designation, indicating that the Avensis Verso’s security package exceeds the standard ABI Thatcham requirements.
