New Ignis 5-Door Hatchback Announced
Published: 21st September 2003
The power steering system is electric and minimises power loss and reduces fuel consumption by between 3 and 5%. It provides more power assistance at lower speeds for lighter and more responsive handling and less power assistance at higher speeds.
Front ventilated disc brakes
The large 257 mm diameter ventilated front disc brakes work in tandem
with the leading/trailing rear drum brakes to deliver dependable
stopping power.
Safety and security
The body structure has been engineered to protect of the occupants
in the event of a collision. Crushable zones absorb impact energy
in a safe, controlled manner, while the cabin resists deformation,
helping to prevent impact forces from reaching the occupants. The
main members effectively disperse impact energy evenly throughout
the structure, while side impact-protection beams are incorporated
in the front and rear doors to absorb impact forces.
Three-point ELR seatbelts for all seats
Three-point ELR seatbelts are fitted on all five seats. Those at
the front have pre-tensioners and height adjustable anchorages.
The ISOFIX child seat restraint system is also standard. Front and
side airbags and active safety head restraints Front SRS airbags,
side airbags and active safety head restraints are provided for
both the driver and front seat passenger. In the event of a rear
collision the active head restraints absorb impact by using the
force of the passenger against the seatback to instantaneously move
the restraint forward to support the head and neck area.
ABS with Electronic Brake Force Distribution (EBD)
Latest generation ABS prevents wheel lockup following sudden braking
application even under slippery road conditions. EBD adjusts the
distribution of braking force between the front and rear wheels
depending upon the weight of passengers and luggage to ensure maximum
stopping power in various situations.
Anti-theft technologies
Deadlocks, freewheeling key cylinders, an immobiliser and visible
VIN provide effective and thorough anti-theft protection. Keyless
remote central locking is also standard.
Practical, versatile interior
A host of interior amenities adds up to a more comfortable motoring
experience. Door trim pockets, bottle holders on all doors, cup
holders, a glove box, under-dash storage space, a front-seat back
pocket, passenger 'grab' handles, coat hooks, a 12 volt accessory
socket, a centre console, a storage tray under the front passenger
seat and more are all standard
Versatile rear seat configuration; generous luggage space
The 60:40 split rear seatback - which can be reclined for comfort
or folded flat in a single action - allows luggage space and passenger
seating to be adjusted in a variety of ways. The luggage area alone
is 665 mm long and 1,119 mm wide, with a capacity of 526 litres
and expands to 1,002 litres when the rear seats are folded.
