Suzuki Introduces The CONCEPT-S
Published: 20th September 2002
September 5, 2002 / Suzuki introduces a new concept car "CONCEPT-S" at the Paris Motor Show (Hall 3).
A Dynamic Supermini, With Suzuki's"Sporty Mind" Condensed In Its Compact Body
Suzuki's aggressive motorcycle and information-communication technology wrapped together in one package, the dynamic super sports mini "CONCEPT-S" represents the ideal combination of artistic and technical disciplines to be found in the next generation of motor vehicles.
A Futuristic Shape
The "CONCEPT-S" gives a great impression of stability and safety
with its chunky body shape and wheels located at all four corners of the
body, a unique feature in this segment. In fact the car is less than 3,650
mm long but 1,730 mm wide and equipped with 18 inch wheels. The originality
of the styling of the "CONCEPT-S" gives it a strong personality
expressed in the shape of its bonnet and the very distinctive overall
lines of the car. This powerful presence is also a result of the unique
shape of the "wrap around window" with its concealed uprights:
the vertical headlights give a suggestion of the new shape that Suzuki
intends to give tomorrow's compact cars.

Exclusive Features
The very rounded interior of the "CONCEPT-S" is in keeping with
the "wrap around window" with the shape of the dashboard taking
its inspiration from the wings of a biplane, with aluminium uprights reminiscent
of a motorcycle, reflecting the modernity and sporty character of this
new interior design. Push-buttons on the steering wheel, similar to a
video game controller, completely replace standard controls such as the
gear lever, handbrake, direction indicators and windscreen wipers. This
configuration means that drivers can concentrate solely on driving, keeping
their hands on the wheel. The air conditioning and audio system are completely
controlled by a screen in the centre of the dashboard and is easily manageable
via data input similar to that of a mobile phone. This on-board communication
technology comes from the "GSX-R/4" prototype that will also
be exhibited at the Paris Motor Show. The "CONCEPT-S" is fitted
with a light and compact 1.6L DOHC natural aspirated engine (4 cylinder,
16 valve) made entirely of aluminium. The permanent four-wheel drive,
the sequential 6-speed "MTA" gearbox and the powerful engine
give a truly sporty driving experience, with the "CONCEPT-S"
benefiting from all of the technology acquired by Suzuki through its participation
in the Super 1600 Junior World Rally Championship.
The "CONCEPT-S" Is At The Cutting-Edge Of Technology
Very Advanced Software
An exclusive system called the "Advanced Navigation System"
automatically follows a route downloaded from the Internet. The software
also locks, unlocks and starts the car with an intelligent key card. Fingerprint
authorisation is used to reproduce your favourite engine and suspension
setting. In addition it can be used to download, store and exchange music
files in MP3 format to build up a true music library in the car. It also
assures your security and privacy when e-mailing. This is a strong message
about the future of Suzuki, and the "CONCEPT-S" will be one
of the major attractions of the Paris Motor Show.
