Suzuki Liana

An even more reasonably priced car

On the outside, Liana models now present a bolder on road presence with the introduction of a new two bar grille sporting Suzuki’s distinctive new ‘S’ mark emblem, body-coloured side mouldings and bumper corner mouldings.

The biggest changes are saved for the cabin, however, where the interior has been completely revised for even greater comfort and sophistication. Occupants are now presented with a stylish new fascia featuring a metallic silver finish applied to the centre console, air vent surrounds and the door-mounted window switches. A new design of analogue speedometer and tachometer are complemented by a digital clock and outside temperature gauge display built into the top of the fascia above the centre console.

Revised front seat cushions provide even greater support whilst reshaped door pockets have increased the footwell width. The driver’s seat now has a lever type height adjuster, and for extra comfort, an armrest is provided on automatic transmission-equipped models.

Additional standard convenience features include a roof-mounted sunglasses holder, 12 volt accessory socket in the centre console, steering wheel-mounted audio controls and heated, electrically operated door mirrors.

There are two Liana grades, GL and GLX, with the latter equipped as standard with air conditioning, front side airbags and front fog lights. In common with all Suzukis, ABS with EBD is now across the range.

The Liana’s sparkling performance – clear for all to see in BBC Top Gear’s ‘star in a reasonably priced car’ feature – is provided by a 1,586 cc DOHC all-alloy engine producing 104.6 bhp (106.1 PS; 78 kW) at 5,500 rpm and 106.1 lb.ft (14.7 kg.m; 143.9 Nm) at 4000 rpm. On the road, those figures translate into a top speed of 105.6 mph, a combined fuel consumption of 40.9 mpg and CO2 emissions of just 169 g/km.

Minimal running costs then, matched to extensive revisions, make ‘reasonably priced car’ an even more apt description for the Liana range, especially since there are current On The Road Price offers for the manual transmission GL sedan and hatchback of £8,995, and £9,995 for the GLX grade. Automatic GLX models are also currently on offer at £10,863 OTR.
