Rivals
Daewoo Matiz, FIAT Seicento, Ford Ka, Hyundai Getz, Vauxhall AgilaWhat We Liked
- Fuel economy
- Powerful headlamps
- Cabin space
- Good value for money
What We Disliked
- Seat recline lever awkward to operate and finely adjust
What We'd Like To See
- ABS
- Remote central locking
Build Quality
The Alto is a reasonably well made budget car and obviously the word budget has to be taken into account. Suzuki are renowned for reliability and combined with the 3-year warranty the Alto should cope well with undemanding motoring.
Value For Money
If you are looking for a new car and only have £5000 to spend then the Alto is good value. You get a comprehensive 3-year warranty for your money and all the benefits that new car ownership brings. The Suzuki Alto GL is budget motoring at its best . However, on the second hand market your £5000 will get you much more in terms of quality and refinement for your money.
Overall Opinion
On the whole we were impressed by the Suzuki Alto, the standard specification is reasonably high. Of course we'd like to see ABS and remote central locking but increasing the specification would increase the price and then it wouldn't be Britain's cheapest car at £4,995. The fuel economy is excellent and the insurance group low, the whole package is good value.
