SsangYong Rexton Road Test

SsangYong Rexton
Build Quality
Our preconceived concerns were totally unfounded and we found very little wrong with the Rexton. Yes there were a few rough edges but nothing worse than we have seen on some more prestigious marques, overall we were very impressed.
Value For Money
The Rexton range starts at £16,999 for the SsangYong Rexton 290 E 5dr. The model we tested - the Rexton 2.7 SX weighs in at £ 23,999 which seems very competitive. The downside of SsangYong ownership must be the unknown - how much is a Rexton going to be worth when you need to sell it and is there going to be a dealer network to support it. SYUK Cars Limited, SsangYong’s UK importer is working hard to develop the dealer network, with more dealers coming on board.
All Rexton models come with a three year or 60,000 mile warranty, whichever comes first, a three year unlimited mileage paint finish warranty and a six year anti-corrosion warranty.
Service intervals for petrol models are every 12 months or 10,000 miles, and diesel models every six months or 6,000 miles. Insurance groups have been set at 13a for petrol and 11a for diesel models.
Overall Opinion
The Rexton is a capable SUV at a sensible price which exceeded our expectations. Of course the SsangYong badge will be a stumbling block to some potential purchasers but if you are someone who likes to spend their money wisely and doesn’t have their head turned by designer labels then the SsangYong Rexton maybe the vehicle for you.
