smart, the iconic automotive brand, smashed sales records for the third successive September, with 2449 registrations.
Sales for September 2004 were 77% up on the same month last year, just as the new smart forfour arrived on British roads. Year to date sales stand at 8917 registrations, 24% up on last year. September was also a record month for roadster sales at 590 registrations, beating the previous best roadster sales month by 20%.
Underlining its status as one of the fastest growing automotive brands in the UK, September's London to Brighton smart rally attracted more than 1500 cars, making it the largest gathering of smart in the world.
Jeremy Simpson, Head of smart in the UK and Ireland, said: "I'm delighted that September was a bumper month across the smart board. The roadster continues to do well and the forfour has had a cracking start. Retailers have seen increased showroom activity and we already have a waiting list for some engine derivatives including the £7995 black edition, which is a sell-out."
Simpson continued: "The London to Brighton rally reinforces customers' love affair with the smart brand, which is now firmly established as the image car for individuals."Published 22 October 2004
