Bi-Turbo Blasts To Brighton
Published: 21st September 2003
The racy prototype, created by smart BRABUS gmbh, has two standard three-cylinder engines joined together to create a V6 bi-turbo engine, with 1,396 cc engine capacity and power output of 170 bhp and 220 Nm of torque. The car accelerates from 0-62 mph in less than 6 seconds and reaches a top speed of 137.5 mph.
There are no plans to put this prototype into production, but it shows the versatility and potential of the smart brand and may give some styling cues to the smart BRABUS roadster and roadster-coupé, available in 2004.
Thesmartclub, the UK’s official club for all things smart, has received more than 1,200 entries for this year’s parade of the coolest, customised and creative smart. Owners from as far apart as Perth and Penzance, Swansea and Southend, as well as drivers from the Netherlands, France and Germany, will gather at Kempton Park Racecourse in Surrey from 08.30 hrs.
The V6 bi-turbo will take pride of place in a product display in Black Rock Car Park, Madeira Drive, Brighton, where the Rally ends.
Al Young, Chairman of thesmartclub said: "We’re extremely
honoured and excited that smart GmbH have agreed to bring this very
special car to the UK for our Rally. It really puts the icing on
the cake of what is rapidly becoming one of the largest gatherings
of smart owners and enthusiasts in the world."
