Smart City-Coupe Pulse/Smart Cabrio Pulse: More Performance And Sportiness

Active & Passive Safety

The smart city-coupé and cabrio have high levels of both active and passive safety equipment. Every car is fitted with anti-lock braking system (ABS) and electronic brake-force distribution (EBD), as standard. Electronic sensors work out whether additional braking power is needed at the front or rear wheels, depending on the load being carried in the car. This means that individual braking power can be applied helping the driver to keep control of the car under different driving conditions. All smart models also come with TRUST-PLUS as standard.

TRUST-PLUS is the electronic traction and stability control programme, which prevents the car from skidding in an emergency. Electronic sensors on the wheels and a sensor linked to the accelerator continually analyse the driving status of the car. If the driver swerves TRUST-PLUS reduces the power and applies gear intervention to slow the engine down and help keep the car on a safe path. Thanks to its unique crash management system, the smart citycoupé is one of the safest cars in the small car segment. The main element of the crash management system is the TRIDION safety cell. This is the reinforced steel core of the smart which provides protection for the passengers in the event of an accident. Co-ordinated restraint systems also help to protect passengers. In addition every model comes with full size driver and passenger airbag, integral belt safety seats, belt tensioners and belt force limiters. Side airbags are available as an optional extra.

The sporty character of the pulse is amplified by the lightweight, Sportline alloy wheels, leather-covered steering wheel and gear lever, fog lamps, blue heat reflective glass and bi-colour rear lights. The cabrio pulse has the same 61 bhp engine and the same high level of equipment as the smart city-coupé. Standard equipment on the pulse includes the TRUST-PLUS stability control system, an anti-lock braking system (ABS), electronic brake-power distribution (EBD), full-size airbags for driver and passenger and integral belt safety seats, belt tensioners and belt force limiters. Other standard equipment includes glass roof, remote central locking and immobiliser, electrically operated windows, radio/cassette player, rev counter and clock. The pulse comes with a black TRIDION safety cell as standard, with silver TRIDION as an option. The interior of the pulse comes in a choice of colours - twister green or twister bluegrey. The body panels come in lite white, jack black, phat red, stream green (exclusive to pulse), star blue, bay gray metallic, scratch black and numeric blue.
