Smart City Cabrio Pulse

The smart city-coupé’s and cabrio’s compact and lightweight SUPREX turbo engine has three cylinders and an engine capacity of 599cc. The maximum speed for all models is electronically regulated to 85 mph. The smart city-coupé pulse and cabrio pulse provide additional driving pleasure with an increased power output of 61 bhp (45 kW). The smart city-coupé passion and cabrio passion are equipped with a powerful engine generating 54 bhp (40 kW). The improved power output of the pulse has been achieved by increasing the boost pressure to a maximum of 1.0 bar. The maximum torque of 88 Nm is now continuously delivered between 2,250 and 4,500 rpm. All three engine versions have twin-spark ignition and chargeair cooling. Acceleration from 0-62.5 mph takes 16.8 seconds in the pulse. The pulse and passion models have a fuel consumption of 60.1 mpg (NEDC) for the SOFTIP manual gear change and 57.7 mpg (NEDC) for the SOFTOUCH automatic option.

The electronic power management system (EPM) has been specially designed for the smart. A 32-bit computer controls the power management system and ensures all the components interact. The smart has an electronic accelerator instead of a throttle cable. Thanks to the automatic sequential six-speed gearbox with SOFTIP shifting, there is no need for a clutch when changing gears. Pushing the gearshift gently forward is sufficient to change up, and the car shifts down a gear when the lever is gently moved backwards. SOFTIP is standard across the smart range.

The SOFTOUCH automatic transmission, which enables the driver to switch from manual to automatic shift mode at the flick of a switch on the gearshift knob, offers even more driver comfort. SOFTOUCH is available as standard on passion, and as an option on pure and pulse. The innovative roof design of the smart cabrio has three options for driving with the roof down: the electric folding roof can be set to any position you want while the car is in motion with just a flick of a switch located on the centre console. A second flick of the switch electrically releases the rear section of roof. For the full wind in the hair feeling, the TRIDION roof supports can also be removed and stored in a specially designed compartment inside the boot.
