Škoda’s Group N Fabia has secured the Class N1 championship in the Kumho National Rally Championship by winning its class at the Swansea Bay Rally on 19 July. The class win, for Group N cars with engines up to 1400 cc, means that the Fabia has an unassailable lead with four class victories out of the five rallies run so far.
Škoda’s crew of Iain Freestone / Nick Kennedy outpaced and outlasted the competition in an amalgamated N1 and N2 class fight. They were delighted with the outcome, with Iain commenting, " It’s great to have won the class championship with two rounds to go. We had a bit of a problem with the gearbox late in the afternoon, but other than that, the car ran flawlessly over the difficult stages."
Team manager Andy Rogers was ecstatic with the victory as well. "The team worked very hard for this all season, and we are all very happy to have the class championship settled with two rounds still to go. The car performed really well in tough conditions. We’re also pleased with the championship and the organisation of the rally."
The Fabia 1.4 16v, What Car? magazine’s Best Supermini for the third year in a row, is prepared to Group N rally specifications, which are as close to showroom specification as possible. Fabia is Škoda’s best-selling model with 12,435 new customers so far in 2002, and more and more customers finding the model’s high quality, outstanding levels of specification and competitive prices adding up to great value in a supermini.
