Fabia In The Garden Of England

Published: 15th March 2003
Skoda UK’s highly successful Group N Fabia rally car begins its 2003 programme on Sunday 16th March when it takes the start of the Rally of Kent. Crewed on this occasion by Auto Express journalists Oliver Marriage and Mike Askew, this will be the Fabia’s first competitive outing since winning its class in the 2002 Kumho National Rally Championship. During last year Iain Freestone and Nick Kennedy took five wins from six starts in the series and were declared the champions with two rounds still to run.

The Rally of Kent is based at Detling Showground, near Maidstone, and takes in 45 miles of smooth loose-surface special stages in the area in a total route of 200 miles. Scrutineering & Signing-On will be at Detling on Saturday afternoon and the first car leaves the start at 08.30 on the Sunday morning, returning for the traditional champagne spraying at 16.30 that afternoon.

Billed as the largest event of its type in the south-east of England, the Rally of Kent is a qualifying round of several different regional rally championships and, as such, can expect a large, and very competitive, entry!
