Skoda Moves Upmarket With Aristocratic Help

Skoda today launched its Octavia vRS Estate at the British International Motor Show with the help of aristocratic model Alicia Rowntree who is tipped to be the next 'IT Girl'.

The 18-year-old member of the chocolate family dynasty unveiled a Skoda that embraces many of the features found in its sister car the sporty vRS hatchback - which launched in April 2001. It has the same sporty interior, leather trim and front and rear spoilers.

The 4x4 turbo charged 1.8 litre engine helps the car achieve 180 bhp that takes it to a top speed of 146 mph. All this is expected to come with a list price of under £16,000.

At this price point a spokeswoman for Skoda said the car is expected to have few competitors. “It should be very good value and there aren't too many sporty estates around. You'd have to look at prestige brands such as BMW but they are at a very different price point,” she said.

With sales expected to be “fairly low” this year she said that it was hoped that next year they could mirror some of the success of the vRS hatchback that is expected to sell over 1,000 this year.
