The new SEAT Leon Cupra R with power output increased to 225 PS is now available to order from SEAT dealerships for delivery from October. The uprated Leon Cupra R costs £18000 on the road, and, with TRACKER Retrieve included in the package, it now offers even better value and more power for your £.
The heart of the Leon Cupra R is its 1.8 litre 20-valve turbo-charged engine which now develops 225 PS and 280 Nm of torque delivered through a close ratio six-speed gearbox to the front wheels to give a new top speed of 150 mph and acceleration from 0-62 in under 7 seconds. The SEAT agile chassis and dynamic steering response, which were developed for the original Leon Cupra R, are equally matched to the power and performance of the engine for an exhilarating drive. 18" alloy wheels, Brembo brakes with red "four-pot" callipers and active safety systems in the form of ABS, EBA, ESP and traction control all remain part of the Cupra R package.
The Leon Cupra R retains its original good looks with the lowered suspension, low bumpers, side skirts and extended wheel arches which mark it out as a sports car while a subtle change to red "Cupra" badging distinguishes it from the previous model. It comes in five striking colours - OVNI yellow, Ebony black, Flash red, Arctic grey and Platinum grey; the colour favoured by drivers for the circuit racing version as used in the SEAT Cupra Championship. On the inside, the black and red interior with white instrument dials shouts "performance", but not at the expense of comfort. Sports seats, climate control, 6-CD player, multi-function computer, electric windows and twin front and side airbags all remain standard, and Recaro seats and satellite navigation are available as options.
The inclusion of TRACKER Retrieve in the package is a considerable benefit to the owner of such a desirable vehicle. As well as enabling police to track the whereabouts of a stolen vehicle resulting in a high rate of recovery and reunion with its rightful owner, many insurers offer discounted premiums on vehicles fitted with the device.
The on the road price of the new SEAT Leon Cupra R includes VAT, delivery, 12 months road fund licence and first registration fee, 3 years/60000 miles mechanical warranty, 12 years anti-perforation warranty, 5 years SEAT assistance including European cover and fitment and one year’s subscription to TRACKER Retrieve.Published 24 July 2003
