SEAT’s best-selling car, the sporty five-door Leon family hatch, is set to become even more appealing with the news that it is to benefit from the addition to the range of a hi-tech 1. 4-litre TSI petrol engine. Providing an important expansion of the existing, extensive Leon engine line-up – which ranges from a 102 PS 1. 6-litre petrol right through to a 240 PS 2. 0-litre turbo – the TSI manages to pull off something of an engineering coup. the full story
We recently drove the SEAT Cupra, so please expect a full review shortly – but in one word we were “smitten” – we particularly liked white and black colour scheme, which certainly turned a lot of heads. Now, fresh for the imminent ‘08’ plate change SEAT is giving its most potent road-going model – the muscular Leon Cupra – the option of an even more sporty look courtesy of a dramatic limited edition styling kit version. The impressive additions to the Leon’s already lithe lines give the 240 PS, turbocharged 2. 0-litre Cupra even more of the look of the race-winning SEAT Sport BTCC car, which is set to compete for top honours again this year. Boasting a bespoke K¹ boot badge, the limited edition car’s comprehensive styling additions include extensively re-worked front and rear bumpers, smart side skirts, a more pronounced tailgate spoiler and unique chrome-tipped, centrally-mounted, oval exhaust. The car’s enhancements come in a range of eye-catching colours: Inferi Black, Emocion Red, Luna Grey and Candy White, and it is available to order now through the SEAT UK dealer network. Great value at just £1,000 RRP over the standard Cupra, the K¹ additions arrive at the same time as a change to the Leon range-topper’s equipment manifest. the full story
Today’s news of comprehensive revisions to the London Congestion Charge, which sees Mayor of London Ken Livingstone clobber some motorists with a whopping £25-a-day bill to drive into the capital, puts SEAT’s ultra-green newcomers in pole position for drivers keen to avoid the reworked levy. The Spanish car maker’s all-new eco motors the Ibiza Ecomotive and Leon Ecomotive, which produce just 99 g/km of CO2 and 119 g/km of CO2 respectively, are among a handful of conventionally-engined cars to escape the revised charge. The Seat Ibiza’s low emissions, which put it comfortably into road tax Band A and already exempt it from Vehicle Excise Duty, are also low enough to spare Ecomotive owners the pain of Congestion Charge bills. the full story
On the 25th January 2008, the Spanish car maker SEAT notched up another massive milestone as its 16 millionth model rolled off the production line at the firm’s modern Martorell plant, near Barcelona. The landmark motor, a silver SEAT Leon Ecomotive equipped with a frugal 105 PS 1. 9 TDI engine, is destined to be sold on the Spanish market. the full story
