Renault staked its claim in the battle of the Press Day pop pickers by lining up chart-toppers Liberty X to help promote the all-new Mégane.
Introduced by David “Kid” Jensen, himself no stranger to the pop world, the band emerged from a new Mégane to perform their latest single “Got to have your love”, which went straight into the charts at number two this week.
Liberty X – Kelli, Jessica, Michelle, Kevin and Tony – will soon be driving Méganes themselves, although Kelli and Jessica may have to wait a little while before taking the wheel on their own, as they haven’t passed their driving tests yet!
The new Mégane has caused a stir with its distinctive styling that echoes the futuristic Avantime and Vel Satis models higher up the Renault range. On sale in the UK since 18 October it has already attracted 1,800 orders, with plenty more potential customers having booked test drives.
Renault UK managing director Philippe Talou-Derible also unveiled the New Espace and New Clio V6 models, both making their British public debuts, and emphasised the French marque’s commitment to Formula One, where the objective is simple: to win the World Championship.
And Renault’s F1 team can take heart from the carmaker’s star performers on the day, who’ve proved that an initial setback – such as losing the Popstars final – doesn’t need to be the end of your dreams.Published 22 October 2002
