Renault UK is helping to raise awareness of adapted vehicles for disabled people by supporting Gowrings Mobility’s 40th anniversary promotion, ‘Seize the Day’, which includes the chance to win a special edition Kangoo wheelchair accessible vehicle.
Cars adapted to accommodate wheelchair users are vital to disabled people to get out and about and enjoy active lives. However, thousands of families carry on struggling with standard cars, where they have to fold the wheelchair into the boot, lift the wheelchair user in and out of the car, and do the reverse at the other end. The whole process of going out can be heavy and tiresome, and as a result, many wheelchair users lose a lot of independence.
Backed by Paralympic athlete, Dame Tanni Grey-Thompson, the Seize the Day campaign marks 40 years of Gowrings Mobility providing accessible transport, and has been instrumental in urging more disabled people to get motoring and enjoy independent, active lives.
Dame Tanni Grey-Thompson comments, "Transport and independence is something that’s really important to me. Without being physically independent, I wouldn’t be able to be an athlete, so it’s so important that disabled people have the opportunity to choose what they do and when they do it. With an accessible car, you can be spontaneous and go where you want, when you want. Having an adapted vehicle alters your whole outlook on going out - suddenly you stop reflecting on what you can’t do, start thinking about what you can do, and then act upon it."
With two vehicles having already been won during the year, there is less than one month to win the third and final car, a special edition Renault Kangoo.
The Kangoo, which comes in ‘Anniversary Gold’, a metallic paint exclusive to Gowrings Mobility customers, is modelled on the Kangoo Expression. The model carries the hallmark of the unique Gowrings Mobility conversion, consisting of a lowered floor for extra headroom, an integral lightweight ramp, four-point wheelchair restraint system and personal lap and diagonal belts for the wheelchair passenger so that they can travel safely in the comfort of their own wheelchair.
To suit varying driving preferences, the ‘Anniversary Gold’ Kangoo is available with a choice of three engines, two petrol - a 1.2 and 1.6 Automatic, plus a 1.5-litre diesel. The car comes with creature comforts such as air conditioning and pollen filter, electric and heated mirrors, electric windows, and a CD with 4 speakers. The car also rates highly for safety and storage features such as driver and front passenger airbags and overhead aircraft lockers and rear and overhead parcel shelves.
Speaking about Renault UK’s support for the competition, Ben Fletcher, Kangoo Product Manager, commented, "Kangoo continues to be among the most successful cars in the wheelchair accessible market, giving freedom to thousands of people. We're naturally delighted to support the Seize the Day campaign and hope the eventual winner enjoys many years of care-free motoring."
Dame Tanni Grey-Thompson will be handing over the keys to the lucky winner on 15th December 2005. For your chance to win the specially adapted Gowrings Mobility Renault Kangoo, visit www.gowringsmobility.co.uk
