Proton GEN-2

September sales in 2004 up by 26.55% on 2003

Proton, the niche manufacturer of value for money vehicles has stratospherically beaten 2003 September sales by 26.55% in 2004.

Simon Park, Proton Cars (UK) Ltd Sales and Marketing General Manager announced 367 passenger car registrations in September 2004, an increase of 26.55% over 2003 with 290 sales. "Proton has an exciting year ahead with new products and an increased market presence. I am delighted by the marked increase in sales this September."

Total sales including Jumbuck to the end of September 2004 are 1999, compared to 1812 in the same period of 2003, an increase of over 10%.

The initial sales activity around the GEN-2 has been focused on existing customers via a soft-launch initiative through dealers. This approach was dictated by a limit on initial GEN-2 supply. Simon Park continued, "Our challenge is to reinvigorate the brand in the UK and attract fresh customers through a new generation of Proton vehicle." A programme of national press advertising is planned for November 2004. Proton has combined the engineering quality of Lotus Cars with its own strengths in reliability and quality to create the GEN-2 - a car that offers far more than the average family hatchback.

Following the introduction of the GEN-2 1.6 GL and GLS in September, Proton is pleased to advise confirmed December production of GEN-2, 1.3 manual and automatic variants which are expected to arrive in the UK for mid January sale.
